Summary.

The article considers the most important scientific achievements of academic archaeologists in recent years, as well as the fundamental and applied research directions of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus. The author analyzes the development of legislation in the field of the archaeological heritage protection in the 21st century and the allowances for the archaeological research issued within the 2005-2017 period. He also shows future opportunities and urgent problems to be solved in this sphere of scientific knowledge.
